Slip stitch intarsia

Klasselokale 2, Højer Designefterskole Søndergade 21, Højer

Please note: This workshop is taught in English with the possibility of asking questions in German

By combining the slip stitch technique with the intarsia technique, you can add interesting textures and three-dimensional patterns to your colourful designs: We'll take a closer look at both multi-colored slip stitch patterns as well as textured patterns and knit a swatch that combines these patterns with the intarsia technique.

Bring along:
Knitting needles size 3,0 mm – 4,0 mm and matching yarn in at least 3 colours.

About the tutor:
Anna Husemann is a textile and knitwear designer based in Hamburg, Germany. Her work is all about color, shapes and materials and how they interact with each other. She interprets the traditional craft of knitting in a modern, abstract way, taking a step back from small, repetitive motifs and instead creating an expressive and pictorial character. In doing so, the intarsia technique is her favorite tool.

She is always on the lookout for interesting surfaces, structures, or textures that she can use as inspiration for her designs. Her biggest source of inspiration is nature, especially the seaside: In the natural world she finds endless inspiration for motifs and compositions, as well as for beautiful color combinations and special color nuances. It was during her master’s degree in textile design where she discovered the collage technique for her work.

Most of her paper collages are created on the spot, by capturing the mood of a landscape, scenery, or specific motifs in an abstract way. She then translates these illustrations into knitted textiles by filling their shapes with various materials.

Anna published her first book INTARSIA KNITS in October 2024, which contains 12 exclusive knitting patterns as well as many tips and tricks for mastering the intarsia technique. To follow her knitting work and her current projects, visit @anna_husemann on Instagram.

Knitting the Greek way

Klasselokale 1, Højer Designefterskole Søndergade 21, Højer

This class is taught in English. The tutor can answer questions in German and Spanish.

Curious about Greek-style knitting?

This beginner-friendly class will teach you the basics of knitting with the yarn around your neck— a method that makes purling easier, faster, and more comfortable. In this workshop, I am going to use one of my easiest but still bestseller design: the Fall Wheat, a lovely lacy sweater.

With this workshop, I am going to teach how to do following while using the Greek Knitting Style:
• Knit/purl
• Do every type of increase/decrease
• How to read and follow a chart
• What each symbol of the chart means
• Explain the whole construction of the design
• Practice knitting from the chart the lace diagram

What we will learn:
• Improved Tension Control: Learn to achieve even, consistent tension, making your fabric neater and your stitches more uniform.
• Better Posture and Less Strain: With the yarn around your neck, your hands and wrists move less, reducing fatigue and tension—ideal for those with arthritis or joint discomfort.
• Efficient Stitch Transitions: Seamlessly switch between knit and purl stitches, making it easier to work on ribbing, seed stitch, and textured patterns.
• A Foundation for Colorwork: Build essential skills to prepare for advanced techniques, like Greek-style stranded knitting.

You need to bring:
• A skein of DK yarn (max. 20 gr)
• Needles of 4 mm
• Stitch markers
